Hoki Museum

Hoki Museum

The Hoki Art Museum opened in Midori-ku, Chiba City, in November 2010 as the world's first museum specializing in realistic paintings, with a collection of 480 works by about 60 artists ranging from the 80s to the 30s. The museum holds special exhibitions every six months, and always exhibits about 120 works. One of the highlights of the exhibition is a series of large paintings by 14 artists, each of which was drawn every three years under the theme of "My Representative Works. The museum has also established the Hoki Museum Grand Prize and the Hoki Museum Platinum Grand Prize to promote the development of realistic painting.
Facing the lush greenery of the Showa Forest, the building consists of five long, narrow, gently curving corridors that are stacked three stories high, two stories underground and one story above ground. It was awarded the Japan Architecture Grand Prize in 2011. The collaboration of high quality realistic paintings and state-of-the-art museum architecture will provide you with an exquisite experience. (Reservations are currently required. Please make a reservation by phone or on the website at least one day in advance.)
