Contemporary art gallery KOTARO NUKAGA will open a new space, KOTARO NUKAGA (Roppongi), on the second floor of the Gallery Complex Pyramide Building in Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo, in May 2021, its second location following the TERRADA Art Complex in Tennozu, Tokyo.
KOTARO NUKAGA (Tennozu) has been introducing artists from Japan and abroad who have different perspectives and use a wide range of expressive methods to create their works, and has been thinking about the diversity and cross-disciplinary nature of contemporary art and its framework itself. The gallery has also been actively organizing group exhibitions planned by artists and curated from the gallery's own perspective, examining the relationship between society and human activities and art, with themes such as politics, contemporary social structure, decorativeness, nature, and the body.
Roppongi, where the new space will be located, is an area where people from Japan and abroad with various purposes and cultures intersect. The decision to open a new space was made with the hope of providing people coming and going with the opportunity to experience contemporary art in depth as part of their daily experience. In the future, the galleries in Roppongi, with its easy access, and Tennozu, with its spaciousness, will hold exhibitions that make the most of the characteristics of both spaces and that correlate with each other, approaching the historical, cultural, social, scientific, and aesthetic contexts in which art is established, deciphering the past, reconsidering the present, and flexibly contemplating the future. We will read the past, reconsider the present, and ponder the future.
