PLAY! MUSEUM
PLAY! MUSEUM is a museum with the theme of pictures and words. It features full-scale exhibitions of picture books, manga, and art. Many of the exhibits are participatory and can be enjoyed using all five senses, making it easy for both adults and children to have fun.
PARK is an indoor plaza for children. Using playground equipment made of familiar materials, children can find their own play, and adults can enjoy spending time together. There are also a wide variety of workshops on plastic arts and music, as well as programs for parents and children to participate in together.
The area where PLAY! MUSEUM is located is also home to GREEN SPRINGS, a complex project that opened in April 2020 on the north side of JR Tachikawa Station. It is a futuristic cultural urban space based on the theme of "a well-being town where the sky, the earth, and people are connected," and in addition to PLAY! MUSEUM, there will be a music hall, hotel, offices, and shopping area. (From the website)
PLAY! PARK
PLAY! PARK, which opens in Tachikawa, Tokyo, is not a playground with readymade playground equipment and toys. The theme is “Encountering the Unknown.” Architects and creators participate to develop and produce original large-sized playground equipment, which people have never seen nor understood well, and nor known how to play it. Children can think and play for themselves and learn from it.
The venue is divided into seven zones, including “large and small dishes”, “factory”, “gallery” and “kitchen”. In addition to providing large-sized playground equipment, unique programs for manufacturing, food, sound, etc., provide “meeting with the unknown,” and a place where adults can enjoy playing with children in a comfortable environment.
